Well I think you got to let the dog mature before breeding it, obviously to see if there are any health problems etc when dog is older, or it could be one ugly ma f****am when its older.

I agree Carrie, i picked 18m-24m. I think some may choose longer with an outcross breeding then maybe a line one also, for an example. Times could be shorter for a 3/4 generation male that u raised being breed to bitch of the same for another example. Experienced breeders know their lines.

I am very glad we are discussing this. The akc has very loose rules when it comes to breeding. I really wish the USNMC had kept a set of guidelines.

I picked 15-18 month old, with the thought that I have studs available to me that I KNOW THE BLOODLINE myself.... And to use a puppy, (before 1 yr), is just wrong. And IMHO, unethical.

You can get away with breeding some smaller breeds at a younger age but not with these guys. At least I don't think they should be bred. I picked 18-24 months. I don't have a male yet but one day, when I do have one I would like to get him all health tested and everything prior to breeding. Not only that but this breed changes sooo dramatically between 8 weeks and adult hood and one year of age is way too young. I was actually going to go with 2 years + but if I had a male (of my own) that I was 100% confident about breeding to, I would CONSIDER a "younger" age.
